"There was a resistance, but it quickly faded alongside a group of degenerates still praised by the rest of the world." Twilight said. "Before I went into a coma, I tried to punch Logan Krauss, the one instigating the takeover in the face with malicious intent."

She listened to his words, soaking them in to see what she could use. She was just about to say something, when he asked a question that rang in her head.

"What do I know about Kaylee Brown..."

She looked at him. It was clear from the gaze she was not going to deal with shit here.

"Explain yourself very carefully here, Admiral." Her tone held a certain danger to it. "What exactly are you implying here?"

"I changed my mind," Dunemer sighs, "I said I'd help with fighting but I don't want to be part of the action that might start a war between Equestria and the Union. If you can find me something to do that doesn't involve killing then I'll stay. Otherwise, I'm going to go and find my family."

She rubs the back of her head, clearly embarrassed that she is doing this.

"Well.." Harlequin looked at Rogue and awkwardly scratched the back of her head: "The VTOL does have a minigun on its nose and 4 air-to-surface missiles on the wings, but I understand what you mean.

We'll be linking up with the Union fleet in the ocean. After that, we'll split into ground and water strike teams and covertly advance on our target.

When combat starts, we'll be providing support for the Equestrian forces, working towards the same objective. Hopefully they won't shoot us in the back..."

She looked at Dunemere: "We won't be killing our allies. We'll be trying to do the same thing.
Stop the pillar from activating.

I don't know what will happen when combat starts, but the pillar must be destroyed. Lets focus on that"

Bradford smiled. He seems amused by your reaction:

"Kaylee Brown was born in Equestria. Her entire family lives here.
So did she, for most of her life. But when she turned 18, she didn't enlist with the Equestrian fleet.

She shipped herself all the way to Soren and joined the Union navy. Her instructors and superiors described her as sharp, fast, a quick learner. She has a good mind for strategy.

In the brief time of her military career, she quickly climbed up the ranks, becoming one of the youngest captains in the Union navy.

For her lack of experience and low firepower, she makes up with superior tactics.

Meeting her at sea, when she is your enemy... well... Captain Brown is not to be lightly fucked with...
This is a problem.

Captain Brown is a wild card.
She can be a powerful ally or a powerful enemy. She is a citizen of Equestria, yet she serves in the Union navy.

And when the chips are down, I don't know what she'll do. This worries me"

The admiral looked at the globe:

"...Equestria, her homeland, requires her aid, at this very moment. Yet she's nowhere in sight.
Officially, she went missing a month ago, together with Mercer. Unofficially, I know they both departed on a mission so classified, they didn't bother informing even the highest circles of the Equestrian military.

I would very much like to know, what she is doing right now. What is more important, than protecting her homeland"

Bradford slowly looked at you, watching your expression, every twitch of the muscle on your face:

"You know her. You've sailed with her, for a very long time."

...what is Brown up to? Did she talk to you? Hint in any way what she's doing?

...why did she undergo submarine retraining?

And most importantly...

If she had to choose between Equestria and the Union... which side will she choose?"

Fire leans back, "Easy artimis... im angry at you but such things must wait. We have our world to save and I cant be upset and tease you if you are dead." She looks ahead, "They are going to try shooting at us and as much as I hate to say it... I think our nonlethal options are limited. If you can get Radience I will be very pleased!" She laughs, "Its been a while since we met."

"Might I ask as well, what if one of us were to make the admiral..." she snaps her fingers, '...Poof." she raises her brow and rests her elbows on the table covering her mouth with both hands clearly thinking, "I believe the union is harsh in those situations yes? The admiral isn't a counsoler though."

Rain takes a deep breath, "Harle dear, I think equestria shooting at us is inevitable. The admiral is basically saying he is better then the rest of the worlds armys and that he can prove it by a showcase of equestrias power in killing the witchers." Rain sighs, "As such... they are looking for a fight."

"Lets not get carried away guys" Harlequin raised her hands in a calming manner: "No one will benefit from starting a war, not even the admiral.
Equestria is notably smaller than the rest of the world. Picking a fight with literally every country on the planet, will inevitably result in Equestrias demise.

Even the admiral understands this.
I expect him to spit venom at us, but I doubt he will outright slaughter our forces on sight. It will cost him everything in the long run.

And you're correct, even if, in a fit of madness, he ordered his ships to open fire at us, I doubt many would obey that command, in the heat of battle against the Witchers. It will only spread confusion and chaos among his ranks.

No. If he spots us on the battlefield, he will likely declare us as violators of international law and use it as a bargaining chip later, to extort some kind of favor from the Union.
It doesn't matter.

His political machinations pale in comparison, to the looming threat of the pillars.

We should be fine... we just need to take out the pillar..."

The Mikasa councilor frowned slightly : "...I don't know what you are implying councilor... but the Union doesn't do assassinations. It is a line that must not be crossed.

The Union upholds a set moral values and as the leaders of our world, we must serve as an example to our people, lest the world will fall into chaos.

No. Admiral Charles Bradford will be removed by legal means, in due time. A vote of no confidence, fired by the Equestrian government, seems like the best course of action.
But, that will have to wait. For now, we must focus on the pillars"

The Altheian councilor nodded: "It seems we have reached a resolution.

Our fleets will converge at the coordinates, provided by the Paldenian fleet. We will rally our forces there and proceed with our operation at dawn.

This concludes the war council.

Primum Non Nocere"

"Primum Non Nocere" the other councilors repeated in unison, before their holograms blinked and switched off.

"Snow!" Fire calls, "Send some of our pods as well, and load the bahemoth with those new ship shells." She sighs leaning back contimplating wether or not she should tag along she looks outside her window, "nah... too much work to do here." She makes herself comfortable and opens up the camera feeds on her ships.

Rain looks outside, "You said we were meeting with a fleet yes dear?" Rain crosses her legs and draws an arrow twirling it in her fingers, "Whos fleet exactly?" She bites her lip in thought as she stares out of the window.

There seemed to be mask of anger present over her face. Not much could be read from that.

Her cold, low tone however, betrayed exactly how she felt.

"You're asking for something very sensitive here, admiral" She said slowly, emphasizing on the title.

"Before I tell you what I know, I want to know exactly what your aim is here." Her eyes narrow. "What are you planning to do with her, and the great nation you claim to love so dearly."

"Just like old times..." Rogue nods, before pausing, "Hey, I've just had a thought. Every time the Witchers guarded the pillars, did they leave just before or after the five minute window was complete?

If they left after the pillar became ethereal, then it doesn't matter so much, as that would simply imply that they have an alternative method of travelling between dimensions for personal use, separate to the pillar.

But if they left just before the pillar became ethereal, then that would imply that they don't have any alternative way of getting home, and relied on the pillar as a lifeline of sorts, so if we delayed them long enough, they could become trapped here?"

Admiral Bradford carefully studied your expression for several moments, then suddenly smiled:

"Nothing.
Nothing at all. I was simply speaking hypothetically" he carelessly raised his hands with a smile.

"You will now be escorted to your quarters. After all, the command center is no place for children.."

He released a wry smile, as two sailors quickly marched forward and stood on your left and right. They seem like they're not gonna take any protests.

"Goodbye, Mrs. Sparkle. Once the operation is over, I'll make sure to arrange a transport for you, back to Equestria"
The admiral turned his back on you, looking once again at the hologram of the globe.

"Indeed. You are exactly correct" Harlequin nodded: "The Witchers left just before the 5 minute mark.
The pillar appears to be their only way of transportation. And once it becomes transparent, it probably cuts them off from the other world.

The Beusoleil Witcher is probably stranded here"

She looked out the window again: "We will be linking up with the Verrian, Altheian and the Paldenian fleets... lets try to get some rest while we can. We have a long flight ahead of us.." she quietly said, returning back to her seat.

The VTOL flew steadily above the water, kicking up small waves in its path. As the night settled over the ocean, your eyes became heavy again. The fatigue of the past day began to catch up and you fell into a deep sleep without realizing.

Nothing really disturbed your slumber, not the faint rocking of the plane or the roar of its engines.
In your dreams, you saw the dark staircase again, running down its countless steps, being chased by unseen creatures again.

At the end of it all, you reached the door. Pressing your hand against its cold surface, you heard a faint crack. It moved, maybe by a fraction of an inch.
Your heart began to pound faster. If you just pressed hard enough, the door would open, you just need a little more time-

With a sudden shake, you wake up. Extremely groggy from the dream, you try to open your eyes and gather your bearings.
The VTOL was standing atop a massive ship, rocking together with it on the ocean waves. Its landing must have woken you up.

It was still dark outside, the very early hours of the morning.

Tom groggily opened the VTOL door and jumped down on the ships deck, tripping and almost falling face first onto the floor.

"Careful.." Amy gently smiled and patted him on the shoulder, stepping down the VTOL's ladder.

"W-where... where are we?" Tom asked, trying to open his eyes and looked around.

"The Paldenian Sunray" Harlequin proudly said: "Behemoth class warship, one of the largest in the world"
Looking around, under the faint moonlight, it seems you're standing on a gold painted ship, casting a shadow against the water. Its guns were huge and the bulk of it seems mostly armor.
The crewmen worked tirelessly around the deck, preparing the ship for combat. Their uniforms were white, with gold bands around their forearms.

In the ocean, some distance behind, you could see the ship being followed by a significant fleet of 15 vessels, cruisers and battleships mostly. It was hard to make out in the moonlight, but you think you spot the marking of several different countries from the Union.

Harlequin looked at her wrist watch: "...its already 5:00 in the morning. The pillar is expected to appear within the next two hours.
We should get our bearings and prepare for combat. We're not far from the Equestrian shore" she said, looking at the nights horizon:

"We will deploy on land, with a battalion of Paldenian ground troops and standby for orders. If the situation demands it, we will provide support for the fleet.

Weapons ready, we may need to deploy at a moments notice" Harlequin said, looking further ahead:

"...watch the horizon... from here on... anything can happen"

Looking the the two men on her sides, she made a click in her head.

"Very well then, I believe I heard enough for reflection. I merely suggest to let me join you as the battle is about to start. After all, I have experience with these tactics you fear."

With that, she followed the two sailors outside, biding her time and focussing on recovering her magic, now she was out of the reach of the pillars.

The atmosphere of imminent battle began to slowly saturate your surroundings, as you awaited the zero hour. Everyone seemed a little on edge, growing a lot more quiet and withdrawn as time flew by. A small tremor in their hands, revealing their feelings.

Attempting to pass the time, you scavenge a small box TV that no one was using and tried to absentmindedly go through its channels.

After about the 15th channel you switched, you saw a familiar face on the screen. A middle ages sea pony, dressed in a formal suit and shivering from the cold, as the snow swirled and fell all around her.

You turn up the volume and try to listen in, blocking off the sounds of the ships engines and its creaking decks.

"........-Mira Lerner, live from Equestria, UNN news.

We are standing just on the shore of the Verrian Ocean, some 200 kilometers north of the port of Renee. And as you can see behind me, this region of Equestria is experiencing freak weather.

The temperatures have dropped by 30 degrees celsius in just a few hours. Heavy snowfall has plagued this region, shutting down roads and public transportation.

The same freak weather is being reported in 8 other countries across the globe.
"

Mira covered her ears momentarily, as a fierce gust of wind blew by. She was standing on a snow covered shoreline. The waves of the ocean were unnaturally still, covered by a thin layer of ice.

Up above, a massive storm was brewing in the sky. Heavy snow clouds obscured the horizon.

Mira looked behind her and spoke into the microphone:

"If you look behind me, you can see an eye in the storm. The clouds seem to be swirling around it and growing in size, though the storm hasn't moved so far and remained fixed in its location.

We tried getting closer, but it seems the military has fenced off the area in a 50 kilometer radius and they're not letting anyone through. We tried getting a comment from them, but they have declined. It seems this information has been classified at this time, in order to maintain global security.

At this moment, I cannot definitively say what's happening behind that fence, at the center of the storm, however many in the science community are speculating that the closer you get to these storms, the more intense become the symptoms of mental breakdowns and loss of magic.

We will keep you informed, as this story develops.
"

Mira paused, as someone off camera came into the shot and passed her a winter coat. Mira rapidly put it on, before grabbing her mic again and returning to look at the camera:

"At this time, the Equestrian region still remains the only safe haven, with no mental breakdowns or loss of magic.
The unicorns who enter this region report to have their magic returning in a matter of hours. The psychological state of the mental breakdown victims has also improved, once they entered this area.

The influx of refugees traveling to Equestria has dramatically increased in the past week, with the Equestrian emergency services struggling to find a safe shelter for everyone.

Last night, the Soren government has transferred the inmates of its maximum security prison, from Adelheid, to a similar prison in Equestria, in hopes to maintain their health condition. Their plane is expected to land in Equestria in the next few hours.

In other news, the country of Themis discovered 50 new species of fish in the past week, in its ocean waters. Most of the fish were found dead, washed on the Themis shores. A closer look at their anatomy showed that they were not suited for our climate or the chemical composition of our water.

Far to your right, another fleet emerged out of the morning mist, just as the sun began to rise over the ocean.

Two sailors materialized next to you, shortly after you left your quarters. It wasn't entirely clear if you were heading off to the bridge of your own accord, or if the two were forcefully escorting you there.

Several minutes later, you open a massive steel door and emerge inside a spacey room.

The rays of the rising sun briefly got in your eyes, blinding you for a few seconds. Instinctively trying to shield yourself with your hand, you wince and blink several times, trying to gather your bearings.

As your eyes adjusted to the light, the details of the room slowly began to catch shape.
A row of massive rectangular windows were to your front and both sides. The entire room was filled with consoles and monitors, with crew members hunched over them, quietly talking into their headsets.

Through the windows, you could see the orange sun, slightly peeking over the ocean line.
And directly in front, a massive fleet of warships. You've never seen so many together in one place.
Ranging from tiny destroyers to massive building sized battleships, they were cutting their way through the ocean, at what seemed as top speed.

Sailing in a spearhead formation, the ships were rapidly making their way to the Equestrian coastline, that just began to peek over the horizon in front.

Subconsciously you note that the battleship you were on, was sailing at the very end of the fleet, trailing behind all the others.

Admiral Bradford was standing in the middle of the deck, in a shining formal military suit, looking wistfully at the fleet:

"...amazing... isn't it..." he proudly said: "The might of the Equestrian navy. Thirty five ships together, almost half of our entire naval arsenal. This will go down in history, as the biggest military operation of the decade... with us at the helm.." he quietly laughed.

"Admiral!" one of the sailors called: "Union fleet spotted at eight o'clock. Fifteen vessels strong"

"Good" the admiral smirked: "Right on schedule..." he waved his hand at the crewman: "Begin recording video feed. Make sure to capture their markings.
We'll need the evidence once we submit a lawsuit to the international court" His grin grew wider:

"...the massive Union invading a poor defenseless country like Equestria, so small in comparison. What strength do we have to resist such violent bullying from a mega power?" he broke into a barking laugh.

"Sir... orders regarding our military op?" one of the officers asked.

"Increase speed to 35 knots!" the admiral barked: "We must reach the pillar before they do! Obliterate it, before they get in range...
...We must be the ones to destroy the pillar...our pride as a nation depends on it" his arms collected into a fists, so hard his knuckles turned white.

"Are we going to watch? Or are we going to follow them?" Rain puts her arms behind her back, "Good morning Radiance! Didn't expect to see you here so soon. Did you get on the ship back at Paldenia or were you flown here?" She asks looking at him with a bit of a smile. Though trying to remain stoic and keep her emotions suppressed she was genuinely happy to see him. She looks over the horizon at the equestrian fleet, "Im half tempted just to watch them fail, then again who knows." She crosses her arms, she looks to one of the sailors andcalls out, "What do you make of all this!"

Twilight looked around, at the ships of the Equestrian marine and the incoming Union ships. The latter made her stomach churn, as she had a feeling who were on there. There weren't any pleasant thoughts about the next meeting. However, it seemed like something clicked in her head, that made her more neutral on this. Putting them aside, she went to stand besides him, trying to get a good look at the field and resources.

"Let's see, what's our stock, spread, distance to the target... Angles..."

She seemed to study it all, while at the same time trying to find what she could use from this situation.
