"I hate to be a party-pooper, but do we actually have enough firepower to beat that guy?" Rogue asks Ursula as he clings on for dear life.

Taking a running start Radiance leaps from the ship. His wings sending a gust of wind back as he accelerates towards where the creature is going to surface. He flies to the side of where the monster is going to strike just behind its head so he is positioned on the blind spot. Turning and swinging his blade in a horizontal slash letting the momentum of the beast do most of the work.

Rain rears back and throws her pole axe full force into the water, directly at the beasts center of mass like a harpoon. Resummoning it back to her hand she adjusts her handle and flips the weapon to it's hammer side. She grips the pole axe furthest from the head and with a negligible ammount of effort she swings full force into the beasts spikes as he breaches, "CRACK THIS THING OPEN LIKE A CRAB!" she shouts to Radiance, "USE THOSE SAWBLADES TO CATCH ON HIS SCALES AND TEAR THEM OFF! MAKES FOR DEEP STAB WOUNDS AND EASY DAMAGE!"

"We can win this battle, but not by brute force alone... It's too advantageous." Twilight answers.

"Rogue, scan this beast and give every bit of information on it. Health, mana, strengths, weaknesses, anything you can find." She told him firmly.

She called to others in Nifel. "If you see an opening, cast paralysis! Anything to slow it's movements! We must put in all the damage we can!"

She looked at the two hacking into it. "... What the hell... Is direct attacks all they know?"

"Even if we don't have enough firepower.. we can't abandon these poor people to their fate.. we're Witchers" Ursula replied, briefly looking at Rogue. Her expression was terrified. She was nearly paralyzed by fear.

The depths of the sea became lit up with by barrage of purple and yellow flashes of light. The diving Witcher squad had unloaded their arsenal on the monster, that swam upwards like a torpedo.

Kaylee burst forward with a gust of wind and heavily landed atop her pentagram on the deck of her ship. The chalk drawing lit up in response with a menacing purple light. Kaylee spread her arms horizontally, looked up at the sky and her eyes flashed like a pair of two purple searchlights. Her body was beginning to rise, hovering over the deck. Not flying, but hovering. Her wings froze up and didn't move, she was propelled into the air by the pentagrams magic.

In the next second, you heard a muffled, gargling roar and the sea parted, spewing out a giant rotting carcass. Its body was covered with more than three dozen fresh wounds, some looked magic based, others reminded you of the burn marks the Witcher weapons typically leave. A lone gaping hole in its belly, right in the center of mass, signaled the spot where Rain's pole axe had pierced it.

Radiance managed to get a slash over the creatures head and one of its giant razor sharp spikes flew off as Rain brought her poleaxe over it, just before the monster burst out of the sea like a torpedo and rammed into the nearby ship.

The barrage of attacks must have veered the create off course, as it struck the ship on its side, instead of the center. The wooden structure dangerously cracked and splintered as the ship was violently thrown to the side, turned in the water and completely capsized, sending its entire crew on the top deck underwater.

Carried on by momentum, the creature flew out of the water on a good 10 meter height, before it turned and began falling back into the sea in an arc. For a few seconds, you had time to study the creature completely.

It reminded you of a giant pike fish from Earth, except this one's eyes were massive and black. Its entire back was covered with razor sharp, porcupine spikes.

The thing dived into the water, sending another set of colossal waves across the sea and throwing the ships around like wooden toys. Two of the ships got dangerously close and collided, some of the crew were sent flying over the board and into the air.

The monsters spikes became visible just above the waters surface. It was beginning to circle around the fleet, with its trajectory placing your ship directly in its collision course.
You became briefly blinded as dozens of spells were instantly discharged at the monster from every ship within range. The creatures carcass and back were bombarded with a barrage of explosions that began mixing together and causing a chain reaction.

Releasing a piercing shriek, Kaylee brought her hands together with visible physical effort and snapped her palms, in the direction of the creature. Another shot of purple light exploded out of the woman and arced towards the monster, splashing across its spikes.

The creature stuck its head out of the water and began to scream. Screaming in indescribable pain, throwing its head left and right. After a moment of this, it hid its head underwater.
The spikes on its back moved, shifted and aimed themselves directly at the ship were Twilight and Rogue and Kaylee were at.

Stopping its circular movement, the monster was now set on a direct collision course with the ship. The distance between them was some 100 meters and shortening fast.

(The creature suffered -134 Health damage and has been afflicted by the Blindness Status Effect for 5 rounds of combat (75 seconds))

Rain flys nice and close to the beast, she grips her weapon with both hands raising her axe far above her head before bringing it down onto the creatures skull. She lets the weapon go as she falls back, she resummons her pole axe and fires a strength sap bolt into the right side of the beasts face.

As Rain makes her melee attack Radiance joins in with his strike to where the neck should be. Main hand taking the stab and as he pulls the weapon back his off hand strikes forward, palm open, with a fireball spell. Aimed at exact spot his weapon hit.

As you scan the creature, the information begins to flow into your mind.

Health: 147 remaining, out of 600 Maximum.
Mana: 76 remaining, out of 1000 Maximum.

Magic Category: 5

Martial Arts Technique Level: 1st Dan

"MAKE A HARD RIGHT! ITS BLIND!" Kaylee yelled to the captain over the deafening racket of colliding ships in the background. The captain gritted his teeth and threw the wheel to the side. Twilight and Rogue almost lost their footing as the ship began making a very sharp turn, moving away from the trajectory of the monster.

"MOTHER! RADIANCE! YOU'RE IN MY LINE OF FIRE!" Ursula tried to scream out, but her voice was rapidly drowning in the sounds of cracking wood, explosions and screaming coming out of every direction.
Ursula was slowly rising into the air above one of the pentagrams, the familiar glow around her body indicated she was attempting to activate a powerful paralysis spell. Her expression was pained, she hesitated to fire. Her eyes haphazardly scanned for an opening for an attack, something that wouldn't endanger Radiance or Rain, but so far she didn't have any luck.

Johan zoomed into the air and began making a long pass around the creature, trying to get a good line of fire. A level 1 paralysis spell began playing inside his palms and when he had a good view of the creatures side, he discharged his small ball of purple flame.

The monster stuck its head out of the water again and began shrieking in a deafening, painfully loud screech. It was clearly blind, wildly thrashing its head as it accelerated forward, its unseeing black eyes stared into space with unhinged panic.
The poleaxe connected with its skull, unable to crack the bone but leaving a notable wound on the top of its head. Johans and Rains paralysis spells smacked the creature a few moments later. The creatures head got jerked to the side, slightly altering its movement trajectory.

Far off in the distance, you could see your ship rapidly changing course. It seems they will be able to avoid a direct collision in time. The distance between the ship and the monster was some 50 meters now.

Radiance's weapon pierced the skin clean and the fireball went internal. The creatures skin around the wound began melting as the fireball heated the tissues under.

The barrage of fire from the neighboring ships seized. It seems they spotted Radiance and Rain and didn't want to risk friendly fire. Moments later, you saw over a dozen Witchers, sprinting over the surface of the water, kicking up waves behind them. They were running directly parallel and opposite to the creatures movement.

A few moments later, they reached a clear firing line to the creatures side and briefly stopped, ducking low to maintain balance over the raging sea that kicked them up and down the waves. Another barrage, this one smaller in scale, arced just over the waters surface and detonated over the creatures right side.

The deafening impact and the shock wave from the explosions briefly washed over Radiance and Rain, momentarily putting their flight path out of balance.

(The creature suffered -84 total HP damage and is still suffering the effects of Blindness (4 rounds of combat remaining))

The creature emitted a horrible, crackling screech and suddenly stuck its head deep under water. The spikes on its back began shaking. A strange sound echoed over its body, akin to a hundred bones breaking at once.

And every spike on its back suddenly blasted off like a projectile, aimed directly ahead. By sheer reflex, Rain and Radiance managed jerk to the side, avoiding the razor sharp end of the nearest spike to them, but the sheer size of the widening spikes didn't leave enough room to maneuver. Each spike was almost the size of an oak tree, becoming wider and wider towards its base.

Radiance and Rain were struck over their bodies, by the blunt side of the spikes, as they flew by, passed them. The impact sending the two flying in the direction of the water.

(Radiance suffered -5 HP damage, 20 HP remaining)

(Rain suffered -5 HP damage, 16 HP remaining)

Kaylee went pale. Several dozen spikes were flying toward the ship she was on, as if in slow motion. The ship was in the middle of its turning maneuver, moving out of the creatures path, but half of the ships side was still in the line of fire.

Kaylee's eyes went dull, helpless. She only had time to lie flat on the deck and shout: "Brace for impact" Her words half drowning in the shouting around her.

The spikes cut through the air with a horrible whistle and peppered half of the ship. Huge chunks of wood flew high into the air, immediately accompanied by the sounds of snapping structure and gut wrenching screaming of pain. The spikes had flown straight through the living quarters, piercing the ship clean and came out the other side, continuing to fly for another 50 meters before falling into the ocean.

One of the spikes had cut the main mast clean off at the base, two more went through the top deck, burrowing two massive ditches in its structure. The ship captain was cut in half, by one of the spikes. Only his lower torso remained by the wheel, before it slowly crumbled onto the deck.

Twilight and Rogue became peppered with small pieces of wood that rained everywhere. A second later they saw the main mast begin to collapse and heavily fall right in the middle of the deck, sending more pieces of debris flying everywhere.

Ursula was knocked off the ship by the impact, she flew over board and fell into the sea.

Kaylee was laying flat on her stomach. Her eyes were glued to the remains of the captain. A look of paralyzing horror was frozen over her eyes. She couldn't move.

Tim was nowhere in sight.

Then, the giant monster cut through the waves, missing the ship and continuing to swim past it for several meters before slowing down and beginning to wildly thrash in the water. Something was happening to its back. In place of the spikes, only massive holes remained there, but something rapidly moved under its skin, emitting bone cracking noises.

Rain grits her teeth as she levels out and can only watch as her ship is hit, her focus breaks as she emits a warcry and breaks becoming enraged. Her wings flap hard as she quickly closes the distance. Taking aim with her right hand she passes over the beast, casting a fireball into one of the remaining holes in the beasts back, she rises high and then dives rearing her arm back and casting her pole axe once more like a harpoon, aiming for it's eyes, "RADIANCE IM FALLING BACK TO THE SHIP!" she shouts as she begins rocketing towards Ursula In the water desummoning her poleaxe and reaching for her daughter.

"TWILIGHT!!!" She shreeks so loud her voice cracks, "SNAP KAYLEE OUT OF HER COWARDUS! WE DONT HAVE TIME TO BE AFRAID! WE DONT NEED A MONOLOGUE JUST SMACK HER UNTIL SHE WORKS!"

Twilight endures the pelting of the woodchips, then goes to look at the creature. After that, she look around the ship, trying to find the right seal.

"Healing, stunning, or attack? How much life is left in it?"

She breathes, trying to calm herself despite the chaos going on. She then steels herself, shouting to the witchers.

"HOW MUCH LIFE LEFT? HIT IT WITH ALL WE HAVE HERE!" She steps onto a second tier ice spell and charges it, to be ready to fire at a moments notice.

Radiance hits the water at an angle causing him bounce off it with a wet thunk. He opens his wings and recovers. Heavy breathing escapes him as he takes a moment to hover and recollect himself. His weapon vanishes from reality. He angles himself up and accelerates up into the sky for three seconds. At the apex he turns and electorates towards the creature. Summoning the weapon and taking a note from Rain's tactics throws his weapon, in spear form, at the creature. He sends off the attack in a flyby not bothering to slow down but angle back up into the sky.

Rains fireball flew into one of the holes on the creatures back and detonated with a muffled explosion somewhere inside. The poleaxe pierced its right eye, making the entire organ explode and release a spray of black liquid.
Radiances weapon pierced its neck, creating a deep wound before the weapon dissipated again. The creature released a long, piercing shriek that made your blood curl for a moment.

The sound of snapping bones emanating from its back, began to grow louder, before a fresh set of razor sharp spikes protruded out of the holes in its back. This time, the spikes didn't aim in any one specific direction. The monster began curling up like a hedgehog, its spikes pointed everywhere in a 360 degree angle around it.

Ursula was nowhere in sight for a moment. The murky waters had completely hidden her from your sight, before her head suddenly popped out over the water, deeply inhaling in panic. The massive waves created by the creature, hit her over the head, over and over. She visibly struggled to breathe.

Splashing in place, beating her drenched wings over the water in panic, she tried to stay afloat. Desperately snapping her fingers under water, you saw a faint glow envelop her boots. Ursula was desperately trying to get above the water surface and try to stand up, but the waves were mercilessly hitting her down, over and over. Her panicked shriek began reaching you.

"I..I don't want to die!" Kaylee screamed out, still lying on the floor and covering her eyes with both hands.

"She sufferer combat shock! It happens to soldiers sometimes." Johan grimaced, flying over and landing next to Rogue: "I've seen this before.. we need to-" he suddenly looked up and his eyes widened:
"KAYLEE YOU NEED TO TAKE CONTROL OF THE SHIP!" he suddenly screamed.

"I can't!" Kaylee was starting to curl up, shaking in fear.

"WE'RE ABOUT TO COLLIDE WITH A FRIENDLY SHIP!" Johan screamed out: "THEY DON'T HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO EVADE.. KAYLEE!!" Johan grabbed Kaylee by the shoulders, pulled her up and shook her: "CAPTAIN BROWN TAKE CONTROL OF THE SHIP!"

"This is a medieval frigate! Navigating this thing is not the same! As a modern class warship!" Kaylee screamed out, keeping her eyes firmly shut.

"YOU HAVE A BETTER CHANCE OF CONTROLLING IT THAN I DO!" Johan yelled.

Kaylee was shaking. Slowly opening her eyes, she looked at the wheel, then the remains of the captain.
"Don't look down" Johan placed a hand on her shoulder: "Just focus on navigation"

Kaylee painfully nodded and gingerly took hold of the wheel. Her head darted, scanning the area, looking at the direction of the wind in the sails, at the waves around her, at the friendly ship up ahead and began turning the wheel.

"Twilight!" Alyx's quiet voice somehow cut through the chaos: "The spell is active, there's no need to prepare it. Just aim and fire, whenever you're ready" he spoke, as your body already began slowly rising into the air above the pentagram.
You felt a surge of energy pulsing over your body, wild, hungry, threatening to burst out. The air around your body began rapidly cooling, an icy haze began playing over your finger tips. You saw a cloud of your breath escape as you exhaled.
Your eyes might have been glowing bright teal, you weren't sure.

"FIIIIREEEEEEE!" One of the Witchers barked, and a horrifyingly massive barrage of fire discharged at the creature. Over a hundred purple and red projectiles flew at the creature from the three neighboring ships.
Johan shrieked and fired off a spell of his own that rapidly fell in line with the countless streams of burning light that streaked out of the ships, arced and heavily fell on the creature.

A gargling screech reverberated over the sea, as the monster vanished from sight, under a series of chain explosions that swallowed it whole. Purple, yellow and teal lights, mixing together, creating a cloud of ash and fire, raged over the creatures position, before a deafening explosion emitted out of the impact area.

A quiet whimper echoed over the sea and as the smoke began to clear out, the impossibly giant monster flashed and evaporated, its entire body mass turning to ash, leaving behind only a giant cloud of pulsing energy.

When she hears Rogue, her brow furrows.

"That's entirely possible... Since we feed our glysteria with the corpses of their kin, it's not unlikely this one was hurt after a cannibalistic assault. Or someone drove it off after it attacked beforehand."

She pondered for a moment, then shook her head.

"We'll get the infomation on that when we're back on land. Right now we need to get out of here." She looked around, talking to the witchers there. "What's the situation? Are the refugees alive? Any way to get speed to move out? Do we send someone to notify about our situation here?"

"Thank you" Johan nodded to Rogue, then looked over the guard rail. The massive cloud of ash was still hovering above water, where the creature once stood:

"..the first one's to attack him were the diver team, right? I wonna try speaking with them.. I wander if they noticed any fresh wounds on the creature, before they began their attack.."

The ship slightly turned, moving away from the collision course with another ship and began slowly cruising towards the landmass. Kaylee was stiffly standing behind the wheel, her hands still shaking in terror.

"Our colleagues on land must have spotted the Glystaria Warning Flares by now" One of the local Witchers grimly said, looking up at the ghostly pony skulls above the fleet"
"It will be enough for now. There are many injured on the lower decks and in the water. We must assist them. I need everyone who is able to walk, to help with the wounded.

There is calibration stone in the captains quarters. Select healing and help civilians first. If you are out of magic, there are bandages in the medical quarters downstairs.
Walk around the ship, we must locate and help all survivors and injured."

He looked at Kaylee behind the wheel with distrust: "...does that one know what she's doing? Its not enough to spin the wheel. We need to locate the first mate of the ship, so he can navigate us to the mainland. The waters here are treacherous."

Ursula tightly hugged Rain during the flight: "..for a moment, I thought I was going to drown.." she nervously exhaled, then gingerly looked around: "Lets land back on our ship, I wanted to-"
She froze up a bit, as she looked at the area, where the creature once stood.

The pulsing cloud of energy still remained hidden beneath the ash, and if your eyes didn't deceive you, the energy was beginning to turn into a few hundred colorful threads and flowing in the direction of every Witcher in the vicinity.

Ursula grabbed hold of her neck in panic: "W-wait! Stop, that's too much.. that's too much! AAAAAAAAAAH!" Ursula suddenly screamed out in pain.

A moment later, you understood why. The fragmented essence of the creatures' soul began flowing into you, first just a trickle, then a shower, and then it turned into a waterfall. The exponentially growing power that was directly flowing into you, was too much, flowing too quickly for your parasite to process.

Your body involuntarily doubled over and you collapsed to the deck. A pained, horror filled scream echoed deep in your mind. Your parasite was screaming in pain, but you soon realized, you were screaming along side him.

A massive force was flowing directly into your soul, faster than your parasite could process it. You felt as if you were drowning, opening your mouth but unable to take a breath, as the energy just kept flowing and flowing in the opposite direction. Your vision darkened. Your consciousness began fading away. For a brief moment, you thought you understood what death looked like.

Then just as suddenly, color returned to the world. You could suddenly see again and found yourself laying flat on the deck. Heavily breathing, you tried standing up and looking around.

The same fate has befallen every Witcher in the fleet. Though you noticed the more older ones took the hit a bit better, some of them somehow even managed to stay on their feet, but their legs were visibly shaking.

"Harris.. you asshole" you heard Kaylee mutter to herself, trying to sit up on the deck: "We almost died"

"Aaahh... I'm sorry" you heard your own parasite faintly call within the depths of your soul: "I tried absorbing the essence of that creature.. I thought I could handle it but, it was too much. I didn't realize how strong it was.
I almost ended up killing us.. we almost literally drowned in the power we tried to absorb...
"

Your parasite went quiet for a moment, then added: "Well.. I'll avoid doing things like this in the future.. I'm new to this too...
At any rate, I did bite off a huge chunk. I believe this is what you call 'The Holidays Came Early'."

She takes Ursula's hand and helps her up, "Do what you do best my dear. Go down there and heal the wounded. Radiance and I will gather up whatever survivors we can find."

As she comes by, she climbs back on her feet. Holding her head, she shakes it to clear out any fog in it.

"Okay, so that's drugs in reverse." She muttered.

She took a moment to give herself these stats:

Health: 14
Sanity: 15
Mana: 35

After that, she went to the infirmary for supplies, followed by a trip to the wounded. Generally, her actions seem to give supplies to fellow caretakers, patch up small scrapes and give emotional support. She also kept the 3 heals she had left for emergencies, in case someone was close to death.

"Waaaah, I'm sorry Rain.." Squiggles guiltily said: "I guess I bit off more than I could swallow" he remained quiet for a moment, then called again:
"..uh, Rain, I'm afraid we can't distribute our new points like that. You'll have to remove one point from somewhere, we can only distribute 16 new points there"

The Witcher silently glared at Rain. For a moment he looked like he was going to say something, but decided not to and walked off.

Kaylee timidly looked at Rain and quietly said: "Thank you.."

"Be careful" Ursula called to Rain, before joining Twilight in the lower decks.
After verifying several times that Kaylee was okay, Johan left her on the ships bridge and descended into the lower decks as well.

The situation at sea was chaotic. The people who ended up overboard weren't in danger of drowning, even those who passed out and drifted over the waves unconsciously, could still breathe through their gills, even if the waves covered them. You subconsciously realized once more that everyone around were sea ponies.

The real problems were widespread hypothermia and the injuries the people sustained when they were ejected over the board of the ships. The waters were completely filled with wooden debris, pieces of ship cargo and dark red mists that often obscured the unconscious injured from view, making it difficult to spot them.
The raging waves of the sea didn't help. As time passed, you began having trouble flying them out of the water, as your wings began to grow gradually drenched, from the waves and the occasional shower of rain than continued and stopped several times during the next hour.

Eventually you had to resort using a rope ladder, to get the wounded back on the ships, together with the other Witchers who worked alongside you.
By the end of it, when the respective ship captains completed a full head count of everyone who was injured or killed, when all the survivors were brought on board, your whole body ached. Every muscle was on fire and you struggled to catch your breath. The cold rain falling down from the sky, didn't help.

On the lower decks of your ship, the situation was horrid. The constant crying and screaming of pain, echoed non stop through the ship. Almost half of it was peppered in giant holes that let in the raging winds and the rain, making it even more difficult to treat the wounded.

The seasoned sailors were heavily worried about the possibility of the ship taking in water and possibly sinking, if any holes were punched in the lower part of the structure. Sometimes you heard very unsettling creaks of the wooden support structures between the decks.
After inspecting them, the Witchers grimly replied that it was imperative to get to the mainland as quickly as possible. The ship would likely be decommissioned and never set sail again due to severe safety hazards and extensive structural damage.

Johan and Ursula worked tirelessly beside Twilight, helping to free the injured from under the debris and treating their wounds. Soon after the rescue efforts had started, you ended up passing next to your cabin.

You found Tim laying there, on the floor. Most of his body was covered in small and very sharp pieces of wooden debris. One of the monsters spikes had flown straight through the wall of your cabin, leaving a giant hole that revealed the sea on the other side and let in constant freezing gusts of wind.

Two women with glowing eyes and white robes were already kneeling beside Tim, one was carefully and painstakingly removing the small parts of debris, the other one was casting something every few seconds. Tim was unconscious. The barely notable movements of his chest indicated that he was still alive.

"Tim!" Ursula called and rushed into the cabin. She cast a Scan on him, just at the time to notice how his health went from 1 to 10, then dropped down to 9 almost immediately. One of the women in robes had just finished casting a healing spell, but her face remained grave.

"Why is he still loosing life?" Ursula desperately called: "I don't understand, shouldn't he be regenerating?! He has a parasite!"

One of the women in robes turned to you. Her glowing eyes had a mournful expression:
"...your friend has several dozen pieces of debris embedded around his heart, aorta and midbrain. It is causing a constant internal bleeding that threatens his life. He can only continue regenerating for so long, sustained by our magic, before all the reserves of his body are spent.
To save his life, the pieces of debris must be removed. This causes a problem, as they are very small and embedded deep in the body"

"Let me remove them then!" Ursula desperately called and pulled out a knife from her belt.

"You cannot" one of the women calmly replied: "The debris is embedded in very close proximity to his vital organs, perhaps even in parts of his main arteries. The debris might be the only thing stopping the bleeding from becoming worse.
Do you have experience in surgery? This operation will require extensive skill and precision, or the patients life will be in even more danger"

Ursula lowered her head in defeat.

"..what can we do for him?" Johan quietly asked, looking up.

"We must take him to Castle Rakshata without delay" the other robed woman replied: "There are experienced surgeons there that may give him a chance to survive. We will have to maintain his life until then. A healing spell every 8 hours is necessary. Anything less and he will die"

"Damn it.." Ursula gritted her teeth as tears began to form in her eyes: "..Tim..."

Tim was laying unconscious on the floor, unmoving.

Rain shivers and looks at Tim with a sigh, "Its too bad Dr.Night isn't here." She sighs before adresses squiggles, 'I must have miscounted just take a point off of Mana." She lays in bed a groan escaping her as she rests her aching muscles, "I swear I just gained 10 pounds in pure muscle doing nothing but pulling up rescues."
