With the creatures head partially exposed amidst its countless spikes and wildly swinging about, the dive was tricky and required good aim.
Thankfully, Rain's Lei-Tech Skillwires, a cybernetic system designed to give the user more control over thrown weapons and projectile weapons, increased her precision and accuracy.

The system activated on a subconscious level, allowing you to release Rogue just at the right moment and angle.

Significantly accelerated, Rogue mashed his shield square into the monsters forehead. The impact emitting a loud thud, and setting the creatures already burning fur, with another set of green burning fire.

As Rogue bounced off the monsters head and began flying aside into the snow, the hedgehog howled and suddenly curled up into a ball. Sticking its face into the snow to put out the flames and exposing a set of razor sharp spikes to point outward in every direction.

The spikes were big, about the size of a persons head and dangerously shook, as the hedgehog messily buried its face deeper and deeper into the snow.

You don't see any openings. Just a giant ball of spikes stood before you, with no visible opening to exploit. Still held in place by the dark tendons that extended out of the earth.

"Damn... its like natural armor" Rolo said, intently squinting and the monster: "I doubt our attacks will be effective, unless we strike a weak spot that isn't protected by spikes.

We landed good on his head though, we need more attacks like that
"

(Bobby suffered -5 HP in the attack.)

"Yeah" Rogue sighs, picking himself up, "Or... If you can't destroy the bunker, you destroy the foundations. We can't touch Bobby, but we can touch the ground he's standing on! Guys, we need to use area of effect spells on the land beneath his feet!"

Circi growls as she pulls herself up, "not quick enough." She glares, "My home..." She grits her teeth, "You will pay for this." Her hand pulses with black energy as she reads up another tendons grasp. With the things shaking spikes she keeps her distance waiting for it to fire, "I used tendons grasp! It holds the thing in place if we let this thing move we are going to have way more trouble then we would like, unleash your most powerful spells!"

"BLAST THIS THING TWILIGHT!"  Rain closes her fist her hand igniting as she casts fireball at the beast, keeping her distance from the thing she looks for a way underneath it, searching for openings under the scales.

Twilight wrote:She flew up in the air, preparing a 2nd level fireball to launch at it when it lay open again.

"Steady.." Alyx quietly said, his voice concentrated and tense: "Just a few more seconds.. don't fire before its fully charged"

As he spoke, the air in your palm already began to ignite and spin around an invisible axis. It looked like a tiny tornado of fire, that was beginning to form at your fingertips, pulsing with power and slowly beginning a chain reaction, as it consumed more and more oxygen from the air.

From such a high vantage point in the air, you could just make out Kaznachey's heels, as he stormed off into the forest and disappeared behind the trees. It seems he's intent on leaving the battlefield as quickly as his legs carried him.

Radiance wrote:Radiance throws his weapon at Bobby

Just like before, the weapon bounced clean off the creatures spikes, emitting a long, metalic ringing sound. Your weapon flew off to the side, doing a few haphazard spins in the air, before dissipating, as it strayed too far from you. You don't notice any significant damage on the creature.

(Bobby suffered -1 HP)

Radiance wrote:Setting Johan at the top of the hill and out of sight Radiance immediately takes off again and flies back into the fight.

"..-I'm alive" Johan tried to protest, breaking into a coughing fit, as you set him atop the hill. He clearly inhaled some smoke and as you left for the battlefield, you could still hear him clumsily sit up on the hill and try to get his bearings.

Johan was grasping at his chest with one hand and covering his mouth with the other, as he continued to cough and watch the events from a distance. His clothes and hair were notably singed, face covered in soot.

The burn marks on his body were quickly regenerating. He closed his eyes, as the scene of the broken, partially burning cottage flashed before his eyes.
He grimaced, contorted. An old, painful memory could've been making itself known again, associated with the fires he just witnessed.

Still keeping his eyes closed, his left hand stopped gripping his chest and drew a symbol in front of him. A haze of blue lights started dancing over his body, accelerating the healing process.

(Johan healed himself for +5 HP, total 6 HP remaining)

Radiance wrote:Internally: "Johan was no question but do you think we should save Ciri? Or let one of the others?"

"She's still alive! Focus on the parasite!" Echo yelled, trying to be heard over the racket of battle.

Rogue wrote:"Or... If you can't destroy the bunker, you destroy the foundations. We can't touch Bobby, but we can touch the ground he's standing on! Guys, we need to use area of effect spells on the land beneath his feet!"

"No good, it will take an hour to prepare!" Kaylee called over the chaos.

Ursula grimaced, watching the spiked ball in the distance: "..we should've set up some pentagrams before going into the tomb"

"No use thinking about it now, we need to find a way to flip this thing on its back" Kaylee called. She was still standing behind the wall, next to the window, another ball of light already forming in her hand.

The hedgehog slowly stopped moving and went quiet. It seems it managed to put out the fires on its face, but now that it was done, it decided to curl up even more, leaving absolutely no visible breach in its spiked armor.
For a second, you even thought you saw some lights dancing under its body, but nothing happened right away.

Kaylee's eyes widened slightly: "...that thing might be planning to sit still, until its blindness wears off! We need to do something now, before it cooks another instant death spell"

Circi wrote:"I used tendons grasp! It holds the thing in place if we let this thing move we are going to have way more trouble then we would like, unleash your most powerful spells!"

The dark tendons that sprung from the ground earlier, began to wither and die, until they turned to ash entirely.
The hedgehog didn't move however and remained curled up with its spikes pointed in every direction.
A very faint light is seen to be emanating from under its body.

Rain wrote:she casts fireball at the beast, keeping her distance from the thing she looks for a way underneath it, searching for openings under the scales.

The fireball flew at the beast and detonated, the explosion dispersing around the entire back of the creature. You get a sinking feeling that the effect was supposed to be much larger than what you have witnessed. The giant spikes must really be working as a natural layer of armor.

(Bobby suffered -3 HP)

As you look for any opening under the spikes, you can't seem to spot anything too big. The snowy ground that the creature was sitting on, was more or less even. The tiny openings between its spikes and the ground were sometimes no more than 1 to 5 centimeters high and the creatures slight shuffling made sure that no opening stayed in sight for more than a few seconds.

From her corner, Ursula began drawing a complex pentagram in the air, using both of her hands. You recognized the design with some effort. She was cooking a Poison Status Effect.

The two merchants that stayed hidden in the kitchen until now, were intently watching the hedgehog. Both of them were in the process of preparing some king of spell. Their hands danced through the air rather quickly, too fast to identify what their were casting.

Blue and yellow lights danced over their fingertips. Whatever they're doing, they seem to be still in the process of it.

Circi looks around, "I need an anchor..." The sinner crawls to the nearest tree. She digs her bottom spider legs into the roots of the tree. She seems to move in some strange sign language that you don't recognize, she presses her hand to her heart, "Tendons grasp." She whispers and casts it on herself, anchoring herself to the ground, she aims her hand at the giant ball of spikes, "Spinal Chain."

More dark tendons sprung from the snow, catching Circi and anchoring her firmly to the ground.

The next second, something that could only be described as a spinal column, yellow and covered in dark liquid stains, erupted out of Circi's hand and shot towards the hedgehog like a whip. The sound of cracking bones that accompanied the action, made it sound especially unnerving.

In a few seconds, the spinal cord enveloped the entire spiked ball, closing around it like a lasso. The spinal columns tensed up, stretched and the sound of a cracking tree trunk echoed over the area.

The spinal cord began pulling the entire body mass of the hedgehog towards Circi, with the cord folding back into her palm. The forces involved were so immense that the tree roots where Circi anchored herself, began digging themselves out of the ground.

The tree began emitting loud cracks, some tendons snapped, but the spinal cord held. The hedgehog began wiggling and wailing, pushing back fiercely against the cord. It moved maybe an inch from its original position, its colossal body mass keeping it firmly in place.

But the force of the cord was enough to tilt up its spiked armor, just enough to get a clear view of its face. An opening, between the earth and the spikes.

The parasite realized its face was exposed and shot a glance in Circi's general direction. Its vacant unseeing eyes were darting all over the place, as it fiercely pushed back against the spinal cord, trying to curl up again.

A very vivid feeling of being splashed with cold water, suddenly washed over Circi. Years of living in Nifelheim and fighting the occasional parasite, left little room for doubt.

That's what it felt like being hit with a Deep Scan.

Circi's stats and her entire spell list was just revealed to the enemy.

Circi grits her teeth, her head turns to Twilight, then Ursula, then Radiance, she feels the spell wash over her and her pitch black eyes glare back at him, "You don't know who your dealing with do you. You're the pray here."

Rain sees the beast tilt, she circles the gigantic parasite she sees the opening and quickly closes her wings into a dive. She drives the spearhead into it's frantic eyes and before flying off, she jumps, pushing off of the end of the poleaxe's handle.

Rogue casts Strength Sap at Bobby to weaken his resistance to Circi's cord, and hopefully allow her to open up more of his vulnerable belly to attack.

Rain wrote:She drives the spearhead into it's frantic eyes and before flying off, she jumps, pushing off of the end of the poleaxe's handle.

The poleaxe went right through one of the creatures eyes and got stuck pretty deep, before the weapon dissipated. The hedgehog emitted a long, horrified howl as its body went into shock.
It stopped struggling against the spinal cord and heavily fell on its belly. Its spikes slightly lowered and head still exposed.

(Bobby suffered a critical hit of -20 HP)

(Bobby has been stunned for 1 turn of combat)

The monsters carcass was still incredibly heavy and didn't move more than a millimeter, as the spinal cord pulled at it. Moments later, the spell had worn off and the cord released the hedgehog and retracted quickly into Circi's palm.

Radiance wrote:strikes from the front of Bobby with a two handed thrust.

The thrust landed right into the creatures face, leaving behind a large wound. The parasite didn't react and continued to lay motionless on the ground.

A purple ball briefly materialized in Rogue's hand, before it flew into the monsters face, sending a brief purple wave to wash over its body.

(Bobby suffered -5 paralysis damage to his HP)

"HIT IT WITH EVERYTHING WE'VE GOT!" Kaylee called, discharging a lightning strike out of her hand and into Bobby's exposed face.

Ursula grunted, breaking her complex casting sequence and shooting a quick fireball.

Johan who was still very far away had unfolded his wings and began quickly making his way back to the battlefield, trying to get a good firing angle.

The fiery tornado in Twilight's hand had reached its critical mass and stabilized, turning into a steadily spinning orb.

"Its ready Twilight! Open fire!" Alyx yelled over the explosions that rang from the battlefield.

Circi rushes to close the distance. Her spider legs spring her off of the ground as she throws a Superman punch at its head. She flows into a new stance, three of the legs on her left swing down, her right knee comes up, her right bottom spiderleg mimics the leg movement coming up as well, she brings down both onto the creatures skull before her spiderlegs propel her into a backflip to create distance.

Rain resummons her pole axe and aims a fireball at the beasts belly and with a snap of her fingers she sends the ball away, her eyes turn to radiance and she gives a quiet laugh, "The spear part has been the most useful so far! I still have yet to dull the axe head."

Bobby emitted a prolongued howl as blow after blown rained down upon him.

A frighteningly large fireball flew off Twilight's fingertips and arced across the snowfield, rapidly accelerating as it went.
An impact and a deafening explosion followed, engulfing Bobby's face in a sea of flames, that soon spread across his entire body.

A cloud of dust and fire began raging over the parasite and you heard one last muffled howl, before the entire hedgehog exploded into a haze of orange energy, that began swirling in place and arcing towards every person present on the battlefield.

The creature was strong, absorbing its power put a hard strain on your body. You involuntarily gritted your teeth and braced, as more and more foreign energy flowed into you. Your ears were ringing, heart started to race and beads of sweat appeared on your forehead.

The dust from the explosion hasn't cleared yet, but you could already see a large crater where the monster once stood.

Kaylee and Ursula had just begun slowly emerging out of the cottage and surveying the battlefield, when something in the distance caught your attention.

A bright pillar of yellow light, suddenly shot out of the forest and directly into the sky, originating about a kilometer away from your current position. It lasted for but a moment, then vanished from sight.

For a while, all was quiet, then you heard distant thunder from above. The clear sky directly above you, began spontaneously forming clouds. Heavy, dark storm clouds that grew larger over the cottage below.

Another sound of thunder was heard and you began to see a distinct red light, still dim and hidden somewhere deep in the clouds, but growing brighter and brighter with each passing second. It was shining right over the cottage, hundred of meters above ground.

Kaylee went pale. You understood why.
This weather phenomenon looked too unnervingly similar, to the one you saw over Equestrian shores, just before the Equestrian fleet was sunk.

"RUUUUUUUUUUUUN!!!" Ursula shrieked in a breaking, hoarse voice.

"Run!" Kaylee yelled, waving to the merchants as they stumbled out of the kitchen and sprinted out of the house: "Go go!"

Johan hovered in mid air, somewhere close to the main door, until Ursula, Kaylee and the merchant bolted out of the house, before following everyone.

As you dashed to the treeline, a raucous sound boomed from the sky. The clouds parted and disintegrated before your eyes, as a meteor slowly cut its way through them. The piece of rock was engulfed in flames and lava, that fell off of it and created a fiery trail in the wake of its path.

The raucous noise grew louder, the meteor accelerated, dropped from the sky and punched a hole in the cottage's roof. A moment ticked by, yet there was no explosion. Instead, a deep rumble was heard from the ground, which quickly turned into a moderate earth quake.

"The shot went internal!" Ursula called, coming to a stop as she reached the treeline and looked back.

The deep rumblings underground became more and more distant, the earthquake lessened in strength. But the ground continued to vibrate and soon, you began hearing very distant explosions, coming from very deep underground.

"..dropped straight into the tombs.." Kaylee said. She slowed down her pace and looked back, unsure how to react. The rumblings underground continued, quieter and quieter, more distant.

And then, a horrifyingly massive explosion rang deep in the earth's crust.

Some hundred meters away from the cottage, where you estimated the main Shimmer chasm was located underground, the earth suddenly sank deep, then exploded outward in a colossal rain of rock and debris.

The strongest earthquake you've ever witnessed had rocked the area. Trees closest to the explosion site, tilted and fell, their roots sticking out of the ground. Cracks filled the earth all around you. And in the distance, a sickly green fountain of Shimmer briefly erupted out of the ground, spraying the area with heavy, viscous drops.

Where ever these drops fell, they completely disintegrated everything in sheer seconds.
Circi's cottage was torn apart the explosion, completely reduced to a haphazard pile of rubble.

Kaylee fell to the ground and covered her head with both hands, unable to move, as wave after wave of the earth quake continued.

You're unsure how long the cataclysm lasted. When the deep rumbling underground finally grew quiet and ceased, when the fountain of Shimmer finally ran dry and its viscous green drops sank through the earth, you looked back at what used to be the forest clearing.

A giant crater covered the land. Huge chunks of earth and rock formations haphazardly stuck out of the ground. The air was thick with dust and ash. And only a few wooden floorboards, laying in a heap in the distance, indicated where the cottage once stood.

"...he blew up the tomb" Kaylee quietly said, sitting up straight and heavily breathing.

"That son of a bitch.." Ursula exhaled, getting up into a sitting position as well: "...the bastard burns everything he touches.."

"..Is everyone alright?" Johan weakly called, coughing into the sleeve of his shirt. His entire clothes were covered in dust and soot, loosing their original color completely.

During the destruction Circi remains deathly quiet. She looks behind her, looking across the party. Her face starting to become streeked with black, tears fall from her chin and drop to the ground, killing the plant life beneath her, "What did you hope to gain from this?" She slowly lowers herself to her knees, "You came here with a tail. You brought with you nothing but bad omens and destruction and look what happened." She shakes her head, "How much do you care for the people that I thought you came here to save." She slowly starts to get up, "Yet. I come to discover the mechanica is here executing each other, and here you come along out of nowhere." She looks to each member of the party, "You show up with a snarky purple unicorn, a blind man, a green child, some Pegasus ninja who doesn't know weather to be a heavily armored fool or to stick with her best traits, a cripple, two "Merchants" who obviously are more skilled at being witchers then actually selling anything, and a person that kind of looks like a blood sucking monster I read in a story once." Her voice goes from emotionless to outright anger, her voice cracking as it raises, "And then I invite you into my home. I show you decency, a warm place to stay, and tea! THEN you want to tear up my floorboards for some sort of lost ruins which we unfortunately find." She stops, you can see her hands visibly shaking, "This. This is YOUR fault. If you had never shown up at my doorstep I'd have dinner ready and I would be living my life as usual. How much more chaos has your little crucade left in its wake even if you don't realize it. How many lives have been lost, your excuse is probably going to be, "Oh but we have saved plenty more in turn" or "Oh but we are trying to save our children and everyone in this world." She points to her house, "So your going to do that by attracting the most powerful parasite to some random sinners home. Searching for a weapon that's not even there and then gain nothing from it, barely an identity to who your truely fighting! You tore everything apart. My cosy quiet life blown away with a single spell!" She looks to Twilight, "because your so snarky your going to throw back the fact that I threatened him. Too bad for you I find dying better then losing my livelyhood which is now a giant crater! I would have been more happy dying there with my home."

She looks across the party once more, "All of you... All of you are fools!" She looks to the merchants next, "Especially you. You aren't who you say you are and you followed along because of some rediculously foolish little mission to watch this equally as foolish team that will more then likely be dead within the next week, the only reason your following them is because their mechanica." Her eyes finally fall to Kaylee, "look me in the eye and tell me I'm wrong."

Kaylee uncomfortably shivered, instinctively wanting to avert her gaze, but at the last moment, she forced herself to maintain eye contact. She looked crushed and down, but still looked at Circi and quietly spoke:

"...there are forces of evil, plotting behind the scenes. They are a threat to every living thing on this planet. And when they'll come knocking, they won't just come for our party, they'll come for everyone. You, me, the folk in the castles, it won't matter.

We're all cattle to them.

That's why.." she heavily sighed and looked to Ursula for support.

Ursula nodded and continued from there: "...that's why, we have to keep going.

Circi, I am so sorry about your home.
I know what it feels like to loose it. You may not believe me right now, but I know. To loose the one place you live in, for most of your life, the place where everything is familiar, the one place you feel you belong.

To be so violently taken from you, to make even a visit in the future impossible... I know that pain.

My home was taken as well.
I didn't witness its demise.. but not a day goes by when I don't picture it in my head."

Ursula's voice broke and she swallowed, firmly looked at Circi:

"...the parasite horde marches. Sooner or later, it will come for us all. And the one leading it, perhaps indirectly, is Kaznachey."

She gestured to the crater and the remains of the cottage: "...this... senseless.. numbing carnage... is meant to dissuade us from pushing forth with our mission.

'Look at what happens to those who get in my way' - is the message Kaznachey sent. A message that says, if we keep to our course, even more destruction will follow, in retaliation to our mission.

To discourage, to cause despair, to abandon, those are the feeling he wants us to feel. And if we succumb to it, if we abandon our mission just like he wants...

He wins.
And something so awful will happen, that we cannot even imagine it."

Ursula weakly smiled, only a smile was a little sad:

"...that's why we can't stop, Circi. We can't let him bully us into submission."

She heavily sighed and looked at the remains of the cottage: "...I'm sorry we did this to you...
Its not what we wanted... not what I wanted."

Ursula looked deep into Circi's eyes: "...you are my childhood friend... that will never change, whether you're a Sinner, or a Witcher, or human... you're my friend.

I'm so.. so sorry." she looked down, taking a moment to calm herself, then spoke up again, looking at Circi:

"...its not what any of us wanted.. but its where we are now.. because of us.
Circi... there's... nothing left for you here.. come with us..." she stretched her open palm forward:
"..help us stop that monster, before he destroys everything on this planet"

Rain frowns, she had been silent up until this point, "I believe we need to get back to the caravan. Ursula dear, I don't believe I have flare equipped we should Fire a parasite flare to get teams scouting the woods for "The story teller" can we nickname him so I don't have to say his entire name? It's really hard to say honestly."

After looking over the wreckage of the scene, the purple unicorn let out a sigh.

"... He's been trailing us. I don't know about you, but I have the nasty feeling he knows exactly where we are for some reason. He knows our goal, our path, our destination... If we meet up with the caravan now, there's no way he'll let them live. He has, after all, a reputation to uphold. And the idea he's afraid of a dead woman is not something he wants known."

She looks back at the scene. "If this is his work, well, we won't stand a chance if he decided to go all out. We need to play this smart, most of all, but I can't think of something as of yet."

"Rogue" Rolo quietly called: "I believe there was a slight miscalculation.
If we distribute our points like so:

Health(+2)
Sanity(+2)
Mana(+2)

The end result will be:

Health: 24
Sanity: 22
Mana: 24

Should we distribute our points like so?"
Rolo asked.
